Senior Captain Alan Gwizdowski laced on his skates in the locker room before the 2008 Boylston Cup with only one thing on his mind-beating the Berklee College of Music Ice Cats. "Gwiz," as his teammates call him, had been through two Cups in his career with Emerson, coming up short each time. With his last opportunity knocking at the door, Gwiz and the Lions were out for revenge.
In an attempt to make athletics at Emerson College more accessible to non-athletes, a search for the next public address announcers at basketball games was held. Four winners were selected to provide an exciting atmosphere to the upcoming seasons.
On Nov. 6, the Emerson squad was up two matches to Johnson & Wales University's one. They led 23-20 near the close of the fourth set. All they needed to do in order to advance to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference final was put the ball on Johnson & Wales' side of the floor twice.
